provide First Aid Courses to Industry,
Schools, Commerce and the Public
On
March 14th 1997, The
Secretary of State introduced Revised Codes of Practise in respect of
First Aid
at Work.
Regulation
3(1) state that an employer shall provide a number of suitable persons
to
render First Aid to his or her employees , if they should become
injured or ill
at work. Such a person/s will not be suitable unless they have
undergone
training and gained appropriate First Aid Qualification/s.
It
is therefore a legal requirement to have
people at work who are qualified to act as First Aiders in your
workplace.
In
order to assist Companies meet their
obligations, we offer free advice and a number of Courses as outlined
below. Prices
for each Course vary and are readily made available with further
information by
contacting us as outlined :-
1.
HSE
. First Aid at Work Course (FAW) –
Duration : Three Days
This
Course is the newly recognised and
certified First Aid Course which is brought into effect from 1st
October 2009. This new Course covers all the subjects contained on the
new
Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) Course and adds a more in depth
coverage of
recognising and dealing with major illnesses .It also includes the
first aid
management of injuries to bones, chest and spinal injuries, burns and
scalds
and eye related problems , including irrigation. The Course is the new
“official” First Aid at Work Course and it
concludes with each student
undergoing an Assessment in First Aid matters under the jurisdiction of
skilled
and qualified First Aid Assessors.
Certificate
Lasts for Three Years. Candidates
should re-qualify before expiry, or by no
later than 28 days after expiry.
2.
HSE.Requalification Course (RFAW) -(often termed Two Day Refresher Course)
This
Two Day Course is designed to enable
those who hold a valid First Aid at Work Certificate to remain
qualified. This
involves re-testing skills already gained whilst also serving to bring
to
attention any relevant changes in First Aid Protocols. Achievement is
by on
going assessment and a Final Assessment with independent and qualified
Assessors. Candidates should attend this Course before expiry, or by no
later
than 28 days after expiry. Successful candidates are then re-issued
with FAW
Certificates which are valid for a further three years.
3.
HSE. Emergency First Aid Course (EFAW) - Duration
: 6 Hours
Often
suitable for situations which are not
deemed of a “high risk” nature, the new Emergency
First Aid at Work (EFAW) Course
enables a new qualification which is fully endorsed by The Health and
Safety
Executive and comes into effect from 1st October
2009. Candidates
will learn how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, as well as
dealing
with unconscious casualties .How to cope with serious wounds and
dealing with
shock also are included in the Course. Skills to understand the role of
First
Aider are made known , together with the protocols to deal with choking
and
minor injuries. Achievement is by ongoing Assessment by the Tutor
.Certificates
are awarded to successful candidates and are valid for three years.
EFAW
Holders should not normally be relied upon for sole First Aid provision
but
often it is extremely useful to have such operatives available as
back-up temporary
cover and to assist FAW qualified First Aiders where necessary.
4.
HSE . Annual Refresher Training (ART) –
Duration : 3 hours. (Not Mandatory)
This
short Course is recommended by The Health and Safety Executive so that
First
Aiders can keep their skills right up to date and at the same time be
made
aware of any changes in protocols since their last qualifying Course.
Though it’s
merit’s are plain to see , the facility
is not mandatory in law but is strongly recommended for those wishing
to keep
their First Aiders trained to the highest possible standards.
5.
Paediatric First Aid Training (Ofsted and PSLA Approved) Duration : 12 hrs.
A
specialist Course designed to train those
who work in the Child Care sector, including parents, nursery and
school staff.
The Course concentrates on related child and baby illnesses as well as
including the CPR and unconscious themes included in other Courses, but
relating specifically to child and baby. The Course is run over 12
hours and
can be run over segments of 3 hours each session and concludes with a
Written
multi-choice Examination as well as Practical Assessments to test
learning.
Certificates
are issued to each successful
candidate and last for three years.
6.Defibrillator(AED)
Competent User Course – Duration 3-4 hour
The
aims and objectives of the Automated
External Defibrillator Course is to ensure that candidates can feel
confident
and competent with the often new equipment within their workplace
.These
machines are designed to complement CPR. They deliver an electrical
shock to
the heart in the identified and appropriate circumstances. Students are able to
practice using a
specially adapted and safe AED machine whilst still creating an
emergency
situation. Protocols laid down by the Resuscitation Council are
followed
throughout and a short assessment with each candidate taking charge of
the
incident and equipment concludes the Course. Certificates for
successful
candidates last for 1 year.
